October 2010: IP Pragmatics opens Australia office

A part of our continuing commitment to the region, IP Pragmatics based in London, has set up an Australia office in Sydney to offer an enhanced service to its clients across Australia and New Zealand.

Ronnie Georghiou (Managing Director, Australia & New Zealand) and colleagues in London and Singapore will now be in a position to offer enhanced service to existing and new clients in the region; and to European based clients looking to connect with these overseas markets.

August 2010: IP Pragmatics opens Singapore office

IP Pragmatics is pleased to announce the opening of a Singapore representative office as part of the company's expansion into the rapidly emerging Far Eastern biotechnology and IP services markets. Dr Louise Sarup, Senior Business Development Manager, has moved from London to head the Singapore office.

Through its presence in Singapore the company will be able to both assist clients in Europe to directly access commercialisation partners in this important economic region of the world and assist Singapore clients better connect with the established European and North American biotechnology markets for R&D partnerships and IP licensing.

June 2010: IP Pragmatics wins further contracts in Northern Ireland

IP Pragmatics has successfully secured a number of further IP commercialisation contracts in Northern Ireland, expanding on its existing work with clients such as the Agri Food Biosciences Institute (AFBI) and Queens University Belfast.

Under these contracts IP Pragmatics will be providing a combination of market intelligence and IP commercialisation support services to help these organisations better connect with international commercialisation partners.

May 2010: IP Pragmatics advises Finance Wales on AssayMetrics investment

IP Pragmatics has provided IP due diligence advice to Finance Wales as part of a significant investment round in Cardiff-based AssayMetrics. The financing will allow the company to develop its plate reader used in compound screening by the biotech and pharmaceutical industries. The early stage business has also received investment from a syndicate of business angels.

IP Pragmatics provides IP diligence on investment deals for a range of clients including Finance Wales. Along with IP Pragmatics the other advisors on the AssayMetrics investment were: Evolution LS – techno-commercial due diligence; Hugh James – syndicate legals; and Ashfords – company legals.

April 2010: IP Pragmatics organising session at BIO on IP Bundling

IP Pragmatics, on behalf of the InterAct project, has successfully secured a BIO breakout session on IP Bundling. 'Does pre-packaging patents and IP to make them more attractive to potential licensees?' will look at the topic of patent bundling, the different ways in which this can be used and the increasing interest in this innovative way of marketing technologies to companies.

The session will be will be a mixture of presentations and panel discussions. The panel has an interesting mix of people from across all professions involved in commercialisation - consulting, tech transfer, UK public sector, industry and legal.

March 2010: IP Pragmatics attend NZ BIO on behalf of InterAct

IP Pragmatics attended the NZ BIO meeting in Auckland, March 22-24. InterAct and IP Pragmatics met with potential partner companies and research organisations based in the Southern Hemisphere.
A number of potential partnerships and joint projects were discussed. IPP will work with the InterAct partners to progress these discussions over the next few months.

March 2010: IP Pragmatics exhibit at AUTM meeting in New Orleans

IP Pragmatics exhibited at the annual AUTM (Association of University Technology Managers) meeting in New Orleans, March 17-20 on behalf of the InterAct project.
The event was an opportunity for InterAct to meet with licensing managers from potential partner companies as well as an opportunity to meet other research organisations that may have synergistic IP.

IP Pragmatics and InterAct will also be attending the annual BIO conference in Chicago in May 2009.

February 2010: IP Pragmatics advises Finance Wales on life science investment opportunity

IP Pragmatics relationship with Finance Wales has continued with the provision of an IP review of Ocelus's drug delivery system.
IP Pragmatics formed part of the advisory team used by Finance Wales to assess a second round investment opportunity in Ocelus. Ocelus, a Newport-based drug delivery company successfully raised £500,000 including £315,000 equity investment from Finance Wales.

February 2010: IP Pragmatics works with new Australian client

IP Pragmatics is working with an Australian Biotech company; Marinova Pty Ltd to identify a development partner to progress their premium fucoidan extract product range either as standalone products or for inclusion into new end products that are subsequently advanced through to market.

Marinova Pty Ltd has established a supply chain and developed a proprietary solvent-free process for extracting the active ingredient; fucoidan from organic brown seaweed. Fucoidan is a bioactive polysaccharide widely used in nutritional and cosmetic formulations primarily in Asia. To date, clinical studies have been performed on Marinova's premium extracts and have demonstrated functional food, skincare and pharmaceutical applications.

January 2010: IP Forecaster - Latest software update

In Financial Forecasting, at step 3 which shows filing, prosecution, grant and renewal costs in the countries you have selected to file in, there are now some additional features:
  1. On both the "View NRPH costs as a PDF" and "View NRPH costs as Excel Document", there is now the ability to add in EPO validation costs to these reports.
  2. If you choose to export the whole report to either pdf or Excel at this stage of the Financial Forecaster, ("View as a PDF" & "View as an Excel document") there is now the ability to choose whether to add in annuity (renewals) costs for these reports, and also to select the number of renewal years to be shown on the reports.
